Late one September evening 10 years ago, the pavement outside Brick Lane’s Truman Brewery filled with people waiting for the last show ofLondon Fashion Week. Nothing unusual about that, in the city whose fashion weeks have turned passive-aggressive queueing into an art form. But this was something different. The crowd was waiting for MAN, LFW’s first dedicated menswear event, a show that would revolutionise British men’s fashion.
The event – which showcased the work of three emerging designers on one catwalk – was the brainchild of Lulu Kennedy, founder of Fashion East, a non-profit support scheme set up in 2000 to nurture design talent. “The idea came into my head while watching the Central Saint Martins MA show that February,” she says. “I thought: ‘Why is no one supporting this incredible menswear talent in London?’ So I approached Topman to be our partner, and by September we were doing our first show.” For Topman’s design and development director, Gordon Richardson, it was a no-brainer: “We agreed that we couldn’t let those designers fade into anonymity.”

Fashion designer Renee Salud is staging a runway show to put a spotlight on new ways of wearing traditional Filipiniana.
Billed as “tataksaludnyc 2015,” Salud’s featured design collections demonstrate contemporary and intricate ways of fusing Philippine indigenous fabrics with embroidery. The fashion show is at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, at Double Tree by Hilton Hotel Newark (128 Frontage Rd., Newark, New Jersey). The live events division of Fil-Am Who’s Who, a community lifestyle magazine catering to Filipino Americans in the New York Tri-State area, is mounting Salud’s latest runway show to benefit the “Feed the Children Program” of Catbalogan II Elementary School in Samar province, Philippines. “I’ve been a staunch advocate for the Philippine fiber industry,” Salud says, “Its fabrics such as piña, abaca and the Magundanaons’ handwoven fabric, inaul, which have been ingrained in indigenous traditions dating back to the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines, have the strong potential to appeal to global markets.”

The growing trend of a more relaxed wedding has turned many New Hampshire venues with barns, farms, and historic inns into prime destinations for couples who are ready to say “I do.”
Don Bilger, who owns Whitney’s Inn in Jackson says they have seen a tremendous increase in the last four to five years. When Bilger took over Whitney’s in 2007, they were doing about five weddings a year. Last year, they did 45. He says that a lot of people “want a rustic barn. They like the idea of a casual setting and a casual wedding, and they also like the idea of having their guests spend the whole weekend here.” Jackie Caserta, Innkeeper at the Inn at Valley Farms in Walpole, has seen a similarly strong demand for country weddings. “People have changed the way they look at things,” she says. “A lot of people are scaling down in size because they want something that’s more intimate.”

Attention all women who have spent the last few years wearing yoga pants and sweats in your downtime: men are finally homing in on your stretchy-waisted turf.
Once considered to be the unfashionable clothing staple of people who spend their weekends on the couch with a bag of Cheetos, sweatpants have taken a decidedly stylish turn. Sales in Canada have risen 18 per cent year-over-year to $1.3 billion, according to market research firm NPD Group— and the biggest buyers in the category are male millennials aged 18 to 34, who increased their spending on the louche by nearly 40 per cent for the year.

The State Duma of the Russian Federation is going to consider a bill to amend Art. 14 of the Family Code. The amendments, if adopted, will ban transgender individuals from concluding marriage. The authors of the bill, MPs Alexei Zhuravlev, Dmitry Gorovtsov and Anatoly Greshnevikov say that they are struggling for "public morality."
Needless to say that sex-change surgery has become commonplace in modern medicine. If a woman wants to become a man, her breasts will be removed, the ersatz penis will be created and a complex of male hormones will be prescribed. Transgender males have their reproductive organs removed; with the help of plastic surgery, a pseudo vagina is created and female hormones are prescribed.
