Why you should wear white while cooking - and other style tips from chef Freddie Janssen
The 34-year-old Amsterdam-born chef and author of 'Pickled', Freddie Janssen, is an advocate for easy dressing - although she isn't opposed to quirky footwear and the odd curveball buy.
She shares her tips for making a low-key wardrobe work for every occasion...
Go with your gut
''I tend to get dressed in about five minutes,'' Janssen tells The Telegraph. ''Sometimes it might be jeans, a white top and Nike slides, and other days it could be a denim jumpsuit and some fancy boots. It depends on what mood I wake up in.''
There's an upside to wearing all-white while you're cooking
''My new thing in the kitchen is wearing all white,'' continues the former fashion styling student. ''PolkaPants do great chef trousers that are fitted and flattering, so I wear them with white shoes, a white button-down shirt, and a white apron - it encourages me to be cleaner when I work.''
Dress for the occasion
''I definitely prefer to dress down rather than dress up,'' Janssen admits. ''A lot of the events I go to in the evening are food-based, and sometimes I end up going to three restaurant openings in one night, so I want to be comfortable,'' she explains. ''People in the food and restaurant industry don't really dress up - everyone is pretty casual. If I dressed up I would feel a bit uncomfortable.''
