The 10th annual Geneva Bride Wedding Walk on March 5 will bring about 100 brides and an additional 100 friends and families to downtown Geneva, organizer Laura Gaskill said.

As in past years, the event kicks off at 11 a.m. at the Herrington Inn & Spa, 15 S. River Lane, Geneva, where brides, grooms and guests will tour 12 wedding businesses. Then the event will be capped off at Riverside Receptions, 35 N. River Lane, Geneva, for a vendor reception with 19 more wedding vendors, Gaskill said.

Brides- and grooms-to-be can spend the afternoon visiting every type of vendor on their list of ideas, seeking inspiration for their nuptials, Gaskill said.

“It’s grown and changed so much,” Gaskill said. “Looking back, we started with a small group of vendors hoping to draw people out to Geneva. Now there is so much more awareness of how much a wedding hub Geneva is. … We want brides to love the small town charm with incredible vendors.”

The first wedding walk in 2007 had 10 vendors on the walk and 12 at the reception, Gaskill said. Now there are 12 vendors on the walk and 19 at the reception. There were 64 brides at the first event, and now there’s about 100. Gaskill said they try to keep the number of brides at 100 because now grooms are more involved, and both brides and grooms bring their mothers and friends.

“We are careful not to have the scale go so high,” Gaskill said. “It’s fun. They can spend the day in Geneva – where outside of the wedding walk itself, is a draw. We have great restaurants and plenty to do for everyone. It’s a nice afternoon out.”

Admission is $25 in advance, or $30 the day of the event, which covers the registrant and two guests. Register online at genevabride.

Admission includes a scarf, tote bag and vendor favors. Registrants also have the chance to win a five-night, six-day, all-inclusive stay at Sunscape Cove Montego Bay in Jamaica.

Perhaps the biggest change in the last decade of sponsoring the event is that grooms are more involved in wedding planning than ever before, Gaskill said.

“And we have more gay couples. We have diversity in the types of couples we are seeing,” Gaskill said. “We’re seeing a lot of grooms whose brides are working high-stress jobs, and they are doing a lot of the planning. Sometimes they are considered ‘groomzilla’ instead of ‘bridezilla.’”
